Staycation is a recent invention, at least the word, which made dictionaries only starting in 2009. But it has been fueled thanks to the poor economy, high gas prices and relatively high airfares.
With a slow financial recovery looming, staycation appears to be here for a while.
This is a great opportunity to turn out-of-town experiences to a more local viewpoint. Agents and planners should consider packaging the same types of experiences they create at away destinations. For leisure guests, consider how to package an experience to locals that feels like a true getaway.
Get creative. Package an experience, include some exclusive elements that you’ve negotiated with the supplier and provide the “guest” a different type of getaway.
